On the occasion of his 90th Birthday, the renowned orchestrator/composer Jack Hayes was honored by ASMAC. Nominated with the music teams for two Oscars (The Color Purple, Unsinkable Molly Brown) and recipient of the ASCAP Award for Top Box Office Film for The Color Purple, Hayes has worked with many of the great composers — from Hank Mancini to Elmer Bernstein and is still working today — with the talented Michael Giacchino and others.
As a composer over the years, Hayes has created music for The Virginian, Fade-In, Happy Days, Quincy M.E., and Fast Forward, but he is primarily known as one of the best orchestrators in the business for over 50 years. His credit list appears to be endless — The Joker is Wild, Gunfight at the OK Corral, Riverboat, The Commancheros, Donovan’s Reef, The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Hawaii, Casino Royale, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, Comes a Horseman, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn, Sophie’s Choice, The Natural, Clue, The Color Purple, Jaws: The Revenge, Pretty Woman, Son of the Pink Panther, The Three Musketeers, Free Willy 3: The Rescue, Mission: Impossible II; Ratatouille; and he is currently working on a new film with Michael Giacchino.
Our special guests attending – to pay tribute to Jack – included composers Michael Giacchino and Tim Simonec, orchestrator/composer Larry Kenton, and more.
