The American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 Bill Conti Big Band Competition. Entries were received from all across the United States, and the winners are as follows:
1st place: Steven Feifke from New York, NY, graduate from the Manhattan School of Music
2nd place: Greg Weis from Greeley, Colorado, currently enrolled at the University of Northern Colorado
3rd place: Both Mamoru Sakamoto, from Gardena, CA and Zachary Rich, from Greeley, Colorado have tied for 3rd place
This competition is held each year and funded by the award-winning composer Bill Conti, famous for his film scores in Rocky, Karate Kid, For Your Eyes Only and many more. It is open for entry to anyone enrolled in a music program and age 29 or under. The competition is judged by five composers/arrangers with Big Band experience and headed up by Charles Fernandez, ASMAC Scholarship Chair and Board Member. 2019 judges included Kim Richmond, Glenn Jordan, Bruce Healy, Bonnie Janofsky and Elliot Deutsch.
Entries for next year will be available in March of 2020.
